War on the Floor

While trying to find an empty video tape tonight, in order to tape The Office for Chad, I came across a video of an epic battle between two brothers (my husband and his brother) better know as "THE WAR ON THE FLOOR". Chad and Luke determined, at some point in their childhood, that the year 2000 would be a good year to have a wrestling match, that would once and for all, determine who would be the ultimate champ.

Luke, 19 at the time, narrated, talking smack and gave a tour of the facility prior to the match. He frequently addressed his future children and the future children of his then 24 year old brother.

The duel,so long anticipated, was filmed in the newly established home of Julie (sister to the warriors) and Toby, witnessed by friends and family and forever remembered, thanks to what looks like a 45 pound camcorder.

I was impressed with how similar the skills in this match were to those displayed in professional MMA matches broadcasted on cable television, any given night of the week. Of course, I had to look past the warmly decorated room, light gray carpet, fully clothed competitors, giggling girls on the couch, wedgies, crotch grabs, the very rousing rendition of the Rocky theme song and later, several bars of the classic Sir-Mix-Alot rhythm "Baby Got Back" sung by the voice behind the camera (Julie) as she displayed her mad cinematography skilz. But really, without those, and several other unmentioned elements, these guys could REALLY, possibly, maybe stack up to this!

I am sure, at some family reunion down the line, Silas and Thomas will urge and cheer their aging fathers on in order to determine, once and for all, who's father is the ultimate champ. Maybe Brek and Ella won't cry when their Daddy's wrestle then, like they did a year ago! AND I am sure Noah and Evan will be cheering their Daddy on to join in and prove himself to be the ULTIMATE CHAMPION. (HEY - I.can.hear.you.scoffing-Toby)

I will not divulge the winner of the afore mentioned battle. It is really not my story to tell-but I am honored to have been a witness to the event, and to be a keeper of one of the vessels containing this pivotal piece of our family history.

That was me - it took me 6 tries to get the comment to go, then it went as anonymous. Go figure!

I don't know how I could post it- unless I recorded the t.v. as it was playing. I'll make sure and have it with me the next time we are together-

Oh, I forgot that got taped! My favorite memory of that whole situation was when I called you a couple weeks BEFORE the event and you told me Chad was out TRAINING for the War on the Floor. So good.
