This is home

We ended up buying two shelves, and the owner wanted me to have her daughter's old desk to use, so with those thing we have enough space to store our things.
This is my "pantry" shelf.  I have plans to buy some more storage bins to help me organize.
I like to bake because it makes the kitchen warm!
Our bedroom.  That is not a metal threshold under the door, it is just an open gap.  Trevor and Joel let us have their armories, they have a built in closet in their room upstairs, and we are using the one that used to be Roy's- so we didn't have to buy dressers. Yay!
The owner decided to glue vinyl to the hardwood, and put patio carpet around the edges.
We bought a shelf for this room too.
Patio- much improved.  We will put up new clothes lines.  These clothes have been out for 3 days and still aren't dry.  It is too wet and when it is not wet, too cold to get them dry.  I moved them inside and have clothes in my chairs and the bunk beds to hopefully dry.  We will be looking for clothes hangers that we can use inside.  The large pot in the corner will be for reserve water.  We will add to it each morning.   We will use that water for washing.
Living room and dining room.  Perfect space for our meetings.  I am hoping we can buy a desk so that we don't have to keep our office and work stuff in a suitcase.  The table or coffee table always ends up being the "desk".
The shower that was built in our bedroom.  They glued plastic on the windows for "privacy".  The electric shower head is GREAT.  The upstairs shower head broke this morning so I am glad we have this one now!
The saddest thing.  My washer still in a box.  I am not sure how we will be able to use this, because we run out of water almost everyday without using it.  At the very least I hope we can use it to rinse and spin clothes dry after we handwash, our host family did that in Arequipa.
It is cold here.  During the day the outside temperature is not bad, but the house never gets warm, especially with rain in the evenings and mornings.  We don't get direct sunlight in our windows, so there is nothing to heat our space.  We wear lots of layers, and usually I have a scarf, hat and/or jacket on all day.  I hope we can find some kind of a heater for the bedroom.  It feels like camping, especially because we have to go outside (often in the rain) to get from the house to the bedroom!

The owner is still here, so Kristen and Francisca are still living out of suitcases and boxes, crammed into a small room.  They should be in their room on the third floor this weekend.

Some days I am content here, some days I want to look for something else.  We know that Satan will attack anyway he can, and irritations and inconveniences of this house certainly seem to be something he is trying to use to discourage all of us- just like the shower head breaking today!  The water situation (having limited supply and not knowing how long it will last each day) and being cold is hard for me.  However, these things give me the chance to practice "giving thanks in all circumstances" everyday.  Thank you for praying for us as we continue to get settled in.

You have managed to make a bad situation into a cozy looking home - even though it's cold! You are amazing.

We have moved many, many times over the years and the one thing I always wanted to accomplish was making our home a place of refuge, regardless of the size or condition of the home. Some of our best memories are times spent in an 800 sq. ft apartment with a kitchen where two people could not pass each other, to the 75 yr-old-house that had closets I couldn't even use because they were so hideous.

The main thing was creating good memories and filling our space with familiar things and love/laughter. You seem to have the ability to make your space homey and I admire what you and Chad are doing. Your kids will never forget this adventure.

You are also preparing yourselves to not need lots of extras when you have opportunities to have them. God is blessing you in giving you contentment in time of want ... which is what the apostle Paul talked about. Not only a testimony now, but a good lesson for your kids, and for others who watch you. We all know we could do with less, but we seldom try practicing it. God has a bigger plan than we even realize! He is growing you -- and us through you! Joy and Peace!
